Don’t Forget The Fundamentals in Your Practice

Making time to practice the basics of pistol shooting will help strengthen the foundation of all the other shooting you participate in. If you’ve taken a class with me, you’ve received this list in addition to other drills. If you haven’t taken a class with me yet, contact me today so we can work together to get you performing the basics of shooting on demand. Feel free to add greater distances and/or smaller targets as you improve!

Requires 100 rounds
Always obey the 4 basic rules of safety: -Every gun is always loaded, -keep muzzle pointed in a safe direction, -keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot, -know your target and what’s behind it.
Focus on the mechanics and the task. You’re striving for smoothness and accuracy. Eventually speed will come as a result of practice. You can achieve the ability to safely present your pistol from the low ready position to the target, perform proper trigger press, and get good hits on the target. Your groups should be tighter with practice.
Try to use this time to practice proper pistol manipulation techniques and the fundamentals of marksmanship: Aiming, Breath control, Hold control, Trigger control, and Follow through.
It helps to fill your magazines with only the rounds each exercise requires. You won’t be shooting more or less rounds during each task.
All drills follow this sequence: -from the low ready with finger off the trigger, -pistol up to the target, -shoot, -finger off trigger, -back to the low ready. Place your UNLOADED firearm on a range table or in your holster while filling magazines, changing targets, or moving to different distances. Whatever you do, be conscience of the safety rules!
